About Beijing Institute of Technology
Beijing Institute of Technology is a leading Chinese science and technology university in Beijing, ranked #243 globally in the QS 2027 rankings.
Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) is a public research university founded in 1940, located in Beijing, China. It holds China's prestigious Double First-Class, 985 Project, and 211 Project designations, placing it among the country's elite research universities. BIT has a total enrollment of approximately 33,400 students, of whom around 3,400 are international students from over 150 countries.
BIT's academic core is science and engineering, with particular strengths in mechanical engineering, vehicle engineering, automation, information technology, and aerospace. Several of its engineering and technology disciplines rank in China's top ten. The university has three campuses across Beijing, in Zhongguancun, Liangxiang, and Xishan, and employs more than 3,500 faculty members.
BIT is ranked #243 in the QS World University Rankings 2027, #201–250 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026, and in the 101–150 band in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking) 2025. It is one of China's most internationally oriented technical universities, with English-medium programs available at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

For Nepali students
- BIT accepts applications through the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC), which is fully funded, covering tuition, accommodation, medical insurance, and a monthly stipend of RMB 2,500 for undergraduates. Nepali students can apply via this route through the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu.
- Annual tuition for international undergraduates ranges from RMB 23,000 to RMB 30,000 (approximately USD 3,200–4,200), making BIT significantly more affordable than comparable universities in the UK, US, or Australia for engineering and technology degrees.
- BIT's strengths in engineering, automation, and information technology align well with high-demand fields in Nepal's development sector and among students aiming for technical careers. English-taught programs reduce the language barrier for entry, though learning Mandarin is beneficial for daily life in Beijing.
- China does not offer a post-study open work permit comparable to those in Australia, Canada, or the UK; graduates on a student visa must arrange employment-based visas independently after graduation. Nepali students should factor this into long-term plans.
