China Medical University (CMU) is a public medical university established in 1931 in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. It is administered by the Liaoning provincial government and is one of China's oldest and most established medical institutions, ranking 6th among Chinese medical universities in the 2026 Best Chinese Universities Ranking.

CMU's campus includes its own affiliated hospitals, giving medical students direct clinical exposure. The university is accredited by WHO, NMC (India), WDMS, and FAIMER, enabling graduates to sit for medical licensing exams in multiple countries including Nepal.

For Nepali students
- CMU's English-medium MBBS program is one of the longest-running in China (since 1978), and its NMC and WHO recognition means Nepali graduates can sit the Nepal Medical Council licensing exam after returning home, a direct pathway to clinical practice in Nepal.
- Tuition for the MBBS program is approximately 40,000 RMB (~$5,500 USD) per year, which is substantially lower than comparable English-medium medical programs in the UK, Australia, or even India's private medical colleges, making it one of the more affordable routes to an internationally recognised medical degree.
- Nepali students can apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) at CMU, which covers tuition, on-campus accommodation, and provides a monthly living stipend; Nepal's Medical Education Commission (MEC) also allocates government-sponsored MBBS seats for China annually, with open, Adivasi/Janajati, and Khas Arya quota seats available.
- CMU is a well-established destination for South Asian medical students, and Nepali students studying MBBS in Shenyang are part of a broader South Asian community at the university, with established peer networks that ease the transition to study and life in China.
