About Dalian University of Technology
Dalian University of Technology is a leading Chinese science and technology university founded in 1949, ranked 401–500 globally by THE, with strengths in engineering and computer science.
Dalian University of Technology (DUT) is a comprehensive science and technology university founded in 1949 in Dalian, Liaoning Province, northeastern China. It is a member of the national "Double First-Class" construction initiative, with three disciplines designated under that program, and holds four state key laboratories. The university enrolls approximately 42,000 students and employs around 4,479 faculty, including 15 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering.
DUT's academic strengths lie in engineering, computer science, chemical engineering, civil engineering, and mechanical manufacturing, fields where it ranks among China's top institutions. Seven of its disciplines were rated Category A in the fourth round of China's national discipline evaluation. The university offers 81 undergraduate majors, of which 57 are nationally recognized first-class programs, and it has received 63 national scientific and technological achievement awards since 2001.
The university's main campus is located in the Ganjingzi District of Dalian, a major port city and economic hub on the Yellow Sea coast in northeastern China. Dalian is known for its relatively mild climate compared to other northeastern Chinese cities, modern infrastructure, and strong presence of technology and manufacturing industries. International students make up approximately 5% of the student body, drawn from over 100 countries.

For Nepali students
- DUT's engineering, computer science, and civil engineering programs are well-suited to Nepali students whose academic backgrounds align with China's science-and-technology-focused curriculum, and the university's QS subject ranking of 151–200 in engineering gives it credible international standing.
- The Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC), open to all nationalities including Nepali students, covers full tuition, on-campus accommodation, and a monthly stipend (3,000 CNY for Master's, 3,500 CNY for PhD), making advanced study at DUT potentially free of cost for eligible applicants.
- Undergraduate tuition for international students is approximately 19,500–25,500 CNY per year (roughly USD 2,700–3,500), which is substantially lower than equivalent programs in Western countries, and daily living costs in Dalian are modest at an estimated 20–40 CNY per day for meals.
- Post-study work rights in China for international graduates are limited and subject to work visa sponsorship requirements; Nepali students should plan for this and consider whether a DUT degree's recognition in their target job market, Nepal, China, or a third country, aligns with their career goals.
