Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a comprehensive, research-intensive public university located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, directly administered by China's Ministry of Education. Founded under China's elite "985 Project" and now included in the "Double First-Class" national initiative, it consistently ranks among China's top 10 universities and is one of the most research-productive institutions in the country.

HUST's strongest academic pillars are engineering and medicine, with eight discipline clusters placed in the top 1% globally by Essential Science Indicators, including engineering, computer science, clinical medicine, materials science, chemistry, and pharmacology. The university offers 93 undergraduate programs and 175 doctoral programs across 41 schools and departments, and is notably the only university in China managing four national-level research facilities. Its Tongji Medical College, one of the oldest medical schools in China, is particularly well regarded.

The main campus in the Hongshan District of Wuhan spans a large, heavily forested site, roughly 72% green cover, with a separate medical campus in Hankou across the Yangtze River. Wuhan is a major inland metropolis and transport hub with a lower cost of living than Beijing or Shanghai, making HUST accessible for budget-conscious international students.
