About Jiangsu University
Jiangsu University is a Chinese national key university in Zhenjiang renowned for agricultural engineering, fluid machinery, and 16 ESI top-1% disciplines.
Jiangsu University (JSU) is a comprehensive public research university located in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, China, tracing its origins to Sanjiang Normal School (1902) and taking its current form after a merger in 2001. It operates under the joint guidance of China's Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the Jiangsu Provincial Government, and was designated one of China's 88 national key universities by the State Council in 1978.
JSU is China's earliest institution to systematically develop agricultural engineering education and is particularly strong in fluid machinery, power engineering, agricultural science, and materials science. Sixteen of its disciplines rank in the top 1% globally by ESI indicators, with materials science and engineering reaching the top 1‰. The university hosts 13 national-level research platforms, 77 ministerial or provincial platforms, and a UN-endorsed Global Agricultural Modernization and Food Safety Education and Training Center.
The main campus is situated in Zhenjiang, a city on the southern bank of the Yangtze River roughly 65 km east of Nanjing. JSU enrolls over 45,000 students across 34 academic and research units, offering 98 undergraduate programs, 46 master's programs, and 16 first-level doctoral disciplines. Approximately 2,200 international degree-seeking students are enrolled, with 55% studying at the graduate level.

For Nepali students
- JSU accepts the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC, Agency No. 10299), which covers full tuition, on-campus dormitory fees, and a monthly living stipend of CNY 2,500 for undergraduates, making it one of the more affordable fully-funded pathways to a Chinese degree for Nepali students.
- Tuition for standard undergraduate programs taught in English runs CNY 16,000–20,000 per year (roughly USD 2,200–2,800), which is significantly lower than comparable programs in Australia, the UK, or the US, and Zhenjiang's cost of living is low by Chinese standards.
- JSU's strengths in engineering, agricultural mechanisation, and applied sciences align well with Nepal's development priorities; graduates in these fields may find relevance in Nepal's infrastructure and agri-tech sectors, and China's post-study visa policies allow short-term job-seeking extensions after graduation.
- With over 2,200 international students on campus from South and Southeast Asia, JSU has established international offices and English-medium programs that support non-Chinese-speaking new arrivals, easing the initial transition for Nepali students.
